Born and raised in Caracas, Monica grew up surrounded by metals from her father’s industrial design workshop. As her constant mentor and guide, he continues to influence her work by advising in the high-end manufacturing process used to produce each collection. Monica furthered her interest in design while studying Fashion Styling at the Istituto Marangonia in Milan.
She later developed skills in Fashion Merchandising at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid and Jewelry Design at the GIA in New York. It was both her studies and unrelenting determination which then led her to work as a fashion editor for Marie Claire Spain, run several workshops for IED, and in a public relations position for Christian Louboutin. Together, all of these experiences came to shape the creation of her signature jewelry.
Carried throughout each collection is an architectural presence from Monica’s travels, drawing from art deco detailing and iconic buildings she has fallen in love with. Inspired by the history and symbolism of different places and eras, her pieces exude sophistication with an innovative approach to fashion. Beyond this, Monica pushes design boundaries through the arrangement of dynamic angles and deep dimension through uniquely transformable pieces. It is this vision that redefines her jewelry and the meaning and purpose behind it.
The Monica Sordo collection finds great pride working alongside local craftsmen in Lima, Peru. Each piece upholds Monica’s high standards for design and manufacturing. Monica’s work has been recognized in some of the most iconic publications including Vogue, Elle, W, and Harper’s Bazaar, and can be found around the globe in exclusive shops such as FIVESTORY New York, Luisa Via Roma, Harvey Nichols, and Rare Market.
She is also deeply rooted in the Latin design community and has been tapped for a number of distinguished projects including the curation of designers at the MATE | Mario Testino Centre in Peru.
